Understanding the Bible, Part
Seven
Robbie L. Rogers
Remember what the old testament taught us about God and how he blessed or
disciplined His people according to how they acted.
When they were righteous and were led by righteous leaders what happened?
THEY PROSPERED! But, when unrighteous crept in they FAILED MISERABLY.
Look at the numbers! The rest of the world has increased from a population
of 10 million in pre-promised land times to 5.5 billion, an increase of
over 550 times, while the Jews only number 13 million today, or meaning
they increased less than 4 times what their numbers were then.
There are 1.6 billion Christians now when there was none then!
You have to answer what that means to you, I don't know for sure except
that we certainly have been blessed as a group, haven't we?
Okay, the bodies of water during the gospels are: Mediterranean Sea; Sea
of Galilee (Choctawhatchee Bay, Jordan River or the Yellow River running
only through Okaloosa County), 7-miles long and as narrow as a creek in
some places as it traveled to the Dead Sea.
Areas of localities or provinces during the Gospels were:
Galilee, Jesus' home province or area between the Mediterranean and the
Sea of Galilee (Sea of Kinnereth, today) with Nazareth, Jesus grew up, (Nazerat,
today) and Capernaum, called home in most of Jesus' ministry, (Kefar
Nahum, today).
Samaria, or area between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea. Home
of Samaritans, part Jewish, part Gentile living in constant animosity with
the Jews.
Judea, area between the Med and Dead Sea or the same area where Judah was,
encompassing Jerusalem, the Holy City, home town to most of the Jews in
the New Testament, location of the beginning Christian Church of Acts.
Bethlehem five miles southwest from Jerusalem (Bayt Lahm, today).
Perea, area on far bank (east) of Jordan River, Jesus spent concentrated
time there with his disciples toward end of his ministry.
ACTS LOCATIONS:
Galatia, (part of Turkey, today) destination of Paul's first journey to
the Gentiles.
Greece, Paul's second missionary journey.
Asia, (west coast of Turkey, today), Paul's third missionary journey.
Italy, Rome, Paul's imprisonment and death.
Damascus, city located in Roman empire part of Syria, today, Paul was
blinded there by Jesus and converted.
Caesarea, (Horbat Qesari, today), location of Paul's trials.
Antioch, Syria, near modern Turkey, the starting point of all three of
Paul's missionary journeys. For more go to:
