There are many things which we are confronted with in this life that will lead us into what the world calls the gray zone. The Bible has no reference to such a place or area. Jesus said you are either for or against Me. Matthew 12:30 "He that is not with me is against me; and he that gathereth not with me scattereth abroad." The is no thin line for which to walk. Or as many political people try to walk, the middle of the road, when it comes to their actions, or worse their promises. People who do this are sometimes called pragmatic, which is often thought of by the world’s standards as a good thing. That means, the end justifies the means. In-other-words, whatever I have to do, right or wrong as long as the end result is good, or according to my viewpoint good, then it is a good thing that I do. This is flawed thinking, especially when it comes to Christianity. If you want to know more, read on. |
On the Edge of the Abyss? Robbie L. Rogers 1 John 5:17 "All unrighteousness is sin..." Romans 14:23 "... For whatever does not proceed from faith is sin." All roads to sin are paved by justification. Meaning as soon as you begin to justify what you are about to do you are sinning already. It is easy to be drawn into a sinful life. Satan is not going to run up to you and say, "Hi, I’m Satan, I am going to lead you astray." Neither does a crook or shyster, they appear as though they are your friend and someone to trust. Such is they way of the world and all its temptations. The way to sin seems right in the eyes of our flesh; yet, the world, the flesh and the devil are direct enemies to God. No, this is not to say that the flesh that keeps your body healthy is sinful. No, for God created your body and said it was good. It is your sinful nature that is call in Biblical terms, "flesh." Nevertheless, it is easy to be drawn astray. It is unfortunately our nature to sin. Not the nature that God created but the one that our flesh, sinful nature, created, while seeking the things of the world, not the things of God. Romans 12:21 "Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good." God gives us plenty of ammunition to fight against the enemy. One of the best is prayer, and He gives us His armor which is in the form of prayer. Ephes. 6:10-18 "Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication." Many people, especially worldly people dismiss prayer. However, prayer is one of the most valuable tools God has given us. Through prayer we are able to communicate with God Himself, the Creator of the universe, what more do we want? Well, He did give us more, He gave us His word in the Bible! The Bible allows us to learn more about who God is, His nature, and about what we are to be about. Col. 3:2 "Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth." Through reading the scriptures we are able to be more like what He intended us to be. He gave is rules and commandments so that we might have a measuring stick while we are here in the world; for you see, we are not of this world and only here temporarily. 1 John 5:3-5 "For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome. For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world— our faith. Who is it that overcomes the world except the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?" While we Are here on earth He gives us His word that we may be guided by it. Many people say they do not like the rules He set before us; nevertheless, those rules are the basis of all of the laws of the civilized world. How could you do anything without rules? Can you imagine how chaotic driving to work would be if we all did what we wanted; or how stupid a football game would be without rules? However, there is a big difference between rules the world sets up and God’s rules. James 3:17 "But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere." How can we do this? Doing the will of the Father. Sure He has given us the Bible, but how does He speak to us so we can know what to do and when to do it. You can find some help for this by going to: God Guides Us; Reading the Bible; and How Do I Pray? Proverbs 4:25-27 "Let your eyes look directly forward, and your gaze be straight before you. Ponder the path of your feet; then all your ways will be sure. Do not swerve to the right or to the left; turn your foot away from evil." So, He truly has given us many tools to discover His will, and how to do the things He calls us to do. Another big tool but one that many dismiss as being for Jesus’ time only and not for today, is the Holy Spirit and His Gifts. Check out these sites for further information: Who is Holy Spirit? Filled With the Spirit; What Are the Gifts? Tongues? Psalm 32:8-9 "I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you. Be not like a horse or a mule, without understanding, which must be curbed with bit and bridle, or it will not stay near you." Since we are given so much God expects us to behave in certain ways, and why not, the rewards are eternal, not just for this world, but for a greater place than we can imagine. Luke 9:62 "Jesus said to him, ‘No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God.’ " This means if we see all of His Glory and walk with Him and receive His blessings then we are less likely to come back to the Kingdom if we are drawn aside by the world. He wants us to be obedient servants, not robots, but if we require it to stay within the Kingdom of God here on earth, He will use every means within His realm, which is everything, to keep you as His Child. Yet if you chose to walk away and go into the gray, or plunge into the abyss, it is very unlikely that you will come out. Still, in doing so you will find you have an eternal death-life, 100% without God’s influence, Hell is such a place.
