Left to Our Own Devices

How many of us would have ever envisioned the events of September 11, 2001?

Even if we thought it we never would have believed it could ever happen.  People are not that evil, we would say.  God would not let it happen, we would say... yet it did.

We should be facing the adversary with a purposeful clinched fist, instead many of us most of the time are more full of anxiety and insecurity rather than the power of God!

First everybody is insecure in one way or another. It is what you do with your insecurity that makes a difference.

Offer it to God!

"And when he came to the den, he cried with a lamentable voice unto Daniel: and the king spake and said to Daniel, O Daniel, servant of the living God, is thy God, whom thou servest continually, able to deliver thee from the lions?  Then said Daniel unto the king, O king, live for ever. My God hath sent his angel, and hath shut the lions' mouths, that they have not hurt me: forasmuch as before him innocency was found in me; and also before thee, O king, have I done no hurt." Daniel 6:20-22.

I am afraid, we say.  If I place my head in the lion's mouth, it will not be as a lion tamer; but I will do it through a level of insecurity.

I know fully well God will protect me, but!  Look at the things I often place my faith in, more than in God, which in doing so gives me a further taste of insecurity.

Only faith in God through Jesus Christ will change us or our circumstances.

How do we get such faith?

Only through a constant struggle with our flesh and prayerfully reading and inwardly digesting God's word and coming to knowledge that Jesus Christ is your PERSONAL SAVIOR!

What Happens When We Are Left to Our Own Devices

Robbie L. Rogers

Only through a constant struggle with our flesh, and prayerfully reading and inwardly digesting God's word, and coming to knowledge that Jesus Christ is your PERSONAL SAVIOR, can we be brought to the point we ought to be!

"For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile:  Let him eschew evil, and do good; let him seek peace, and ensue it.  For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil. And who is he that will harm you, if ye be followers of that which is good?  But and if ye suffer for righteousness' sake, happy are ye: and be not afraid of their terror, neither be  troubled; But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear." 1 Peter 3:10-15

"Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you:  But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy. If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye; for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you: on their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified." 1 Peter 4:12-14

"Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world. But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you." 1 Peter 5:8-10

Remember Daniel if you hear Satan roaring in your ear, making your flesh react as an enemy toward God, for that is what you are when you accept insecurity from Satan, an enemy to God, for you are operating in the world!   God has three main enemy categories: the world; the flesh, and the Devil, and they are all "fallen" categories.

"What exactly is flesh," you say; "if God made my body and said it was good how can it be His enemy."

In Biblical terms: flesh is the sinful nature of man, not your skin covering.  We are made up of many good things, of them is body, soul, and spirit; they are good things that can only temporally be made bad by us when we allow Satan to enter in..

We must look at it in the simplest terms for that is what it is. God is good, Satan is bad. Good and evil, God and Satan. Equate them: good vs evil; God vs Satan; positive vs negative thoughts, deeds, actions, forces. Encouragement vs discouragement, Security in God vs Insecurity of flesh, from whom - Satan?! God vs Satan, do you get the point?

Two ways to go, two thoughts, two factors only, FLESH OR THE SPIRIT. We must accept the one and reject the other, simple fact. Not so easy, eh?

"There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it." 1 Corinthians 10:13.

Do you realize how easy it would have been for Daniel to be full of insecurity, afraid in the lion's den?

God knew Daniel, just as He knows each of us.  He says in His scripture, He says He will not be mocked, therefore we can stand on His word in that if we believe we are being tempted beyond what we are able to bear we have only to call out to Him as we did in the beginning, "God I need you and can't handle this alone. Please help me bear this burden as you have promised through Christ".

We've got to realize how simple the matter is and get on with our purposes. Do not believe the enemy? He is our direct adversary, he plants weak thoughts, insecurity in us! We seem to believe him over God at times don't we? Bad comes from Satan, and good comes from God, so reject insecurity (discouragement) and accept security (encouragement).

Be ready always to tell of the Hope that is in you.

"Then he which had received the one talent came and said, Lord, I knew thee that thou art an hard man, reaping where thou hast not sown, and gathering where thou hast not strawed:  And I was afraid, and went and hid thy talent in the earth: lo, there thou hast that is thine."  Matthew 25:24,25

That man either did not know his master or did not perceive his generosity. He called him a hard man, while the others went into "The joy of your master".

Where does insecurity fit in?  National Currency, Bank Account, Job, Leaders, Material Goods, Relationships, Religion, Vehicles, Boats, Fish, Weather, and many others will not give you security.

We can't place our security on the things of this earth, can we?

"For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith. Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them."  MARK 11:23-24

Faith is the key word, the same as hope established through hearing and seeing what can be done through Christ!  We believe in Christ because we know what He can do! He gives us true security!

"Now these are the commandments, the statutes, and the judgments, which the Lord your God commanded to teach you, that ye might do them in the land whither ye go to possess it: That thou mightest fear the Lord thy God, to keep all his statutes and his commandments, which I command thee, thou, and thy son, and thy son's son, all the days of thy life; and that thy days may be prolonged. Hear therefore, O Israel, and observe to do it; that it may be well with thee, and that ye may increase mightily, as the Lord God of thy fathers hath promised thee, in the land that floweth with milk and honey. Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God is one Lord: And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes. And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates."   DEUTERONOMY 6:1-9

Security is based on the truths of God that have been made evident by His circumstances, not the world's or the flesh!

Know whom God is!

"That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us: Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil;"  HEBREWS 6:18,Hebrews 6:18

Insecurity does not belong to a Christian, for a Christian follows God through FAITH giving us the security to stand in the lion's den with out fear!

Many people have been saying for years, "The United States is under the Judgment of God." Consequently, if we truly are under His Judgment, I believe we are also being left to our own devices.

Read the following scripture and see if it doesn't apply to our nation and maybe more important to ourselves.

"Wisdom shouts in the streets. She cries out in the public square. She calls out to the crowds along the main street, and to those in front of city hall. You simpletons! she cries. How long will you go on being simpleminded? How long will you mockers relish your mocking? How long will you fools fight the facts?

"Come here and listen to me! I'll pour out the spirit of wisdom upon you and make you wise. I called you so often, but you didn't come. I reached out to you, but you paid no attention. You ignored my advice and rejected the correction I offered. So I will laugh when you are in trouble! I will mock you when disaster overtakes you, when calamity overcomes you like a storm, when you are engulfed by trouble, and when anguish and distress overwhelm you.

"I will not answer when they cry for help. Even though they anxiously search for me, they will not find me. For they hated knowledge and chose not to fear the Lord. They rejected my advice and paid no attention when I corrected them. That is why they must eat the bitter fruit of living their own way. They must experience the full terror of the path they have chosen. For they are simpletons who turn away from me—to death. They are fools, and their own complacency will destroy them. But all who listen to me will live in peace and safety, unafraid of harm."  Proverbs 1:20-33

Did you catch that last verse?? "But all who listen to me will live in peace and safety, unafraid of harm."  We are never very far from His blessings and forgiveness.

2 Chronicles 7:14 says, "If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land."

Chronicles 7:14 should be our prayer and as our legacy to our children, not the calamity we seem to desire to give them as their inheritance.
