Read Hebrews 4:1-3Take a
look at the Hebrews passage. Rest, what a great word, it is one of those
words that sounds delicious to everyone, but few people ever actually
taste of its fruit. When was the last time you ever heard anyone
express to you that they were suffering from too much rest? There also
seem to be many levels by which rest may come to us; physically, mentally,
and spiritually. Let's only focus and grasp what
we may about God’s promise of rest for us.
Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more
shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God. (Romans 5:9)
We should have rest and confidence that God’s plan of salvation for us has
been established.
For "everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved."
(Romans 10:13)
We should have rest knowing God’s strength is available to us, to live out
the gift of life he has given us.
For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine
power to destroy strongholds. We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion
raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to
obey Christ (II Corinthians 10:4-5)
We should have rest and assurance of a future heavenly home.
Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me.
In my Father's house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told
you that I go to prepare a place for you? (John 14:1-2)
If we will take a moment to digest and praise God for just these four
verses alone, we will receive the promise of rest built into the act of
simple prayer and obedience. There is much more to be said about what
Jesus’ work on the cross purchased for us, but for now we will put the
matter to rest.
