Were You Betrayed? If you have reached forty years of age, you have most likely experienced betrayal. When a family member, close friend, or the one person we trusted the most betrays us, the emotional suffering it brings is so severe that one may even feel it physically; like a knife penetrating the heart. The expression, "He has a broken heart" comes from this common human experience. Want to know more, read on. |
Nancy Mobley Read Genesis 41:47-57 I Corinthians 4:8-21 Mark 3:7-19a Joseph was no stranger to betrayal. His own brothers sold him to the Ishmaelites for twenty pieces of silver. The Ishmaelites sold him again to Potiphor, an officer of the King of Egypt. Life soon began to improve for Joseph. He served the household faithfully and was well thought of by Potiphor, but the good times didn’t last long. Potiphor’s wife falsely accused him of attempting to rape her. Joseph was sent to prison for two years. It appeared to be a hopeless situation. There is a song entitled, "God Will Make a Way Where There Seems To Be No Way". The song continues with these words: "He works in ways we cannot see, He will make a way for me. He will be my guide, hold me closely to His side. With love and strength for each new day, He will make a way, He will make a way." Two years in prison was a long time, but Joseph never doubted that God would make a way. God gave Joseph a gift to interpret dreams. Joseph was called on to interpret the King’s dream, which enabled the King to devise a plan that would save Egypt from famine. Enamored by Joseph’s wisdom, he put Joseph in charge of the entire country. He said of Joseph, "We will never find a better man than Joseph, a man who has God’s Spirit in him.." God ultimately used Joseph to save his desperate brothers who had betrayed him so long ago. Many centuries later, Jesus was betrayed unto death at the hand of Judas, one of his very own disciples. But once again, God was in control. Betrayal unto death was not the end of the story. Jesus rose from the dead, and death was conquered once and for all. The problem for us is that we don’t see the end of the story in the middle of the pain. For us, it also appears hopeless. Remember Joseph. Remember Jesus. God will make a way. Ultimately the victory has been won for us through Jesus Christ, our savior. Look to Him. God WILL make a way!
